Welcome To PPS

Shakepeares Head Meeting Street stairs Formed in 1956 to respond to the proposed demolition of a number of 18th- and early 19th-century houses on College Hill, the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) has grown from that small neighborhood group to a multifaceted citywide preservation organization.

With a large membership, a professional staff, and countless volunteers, PPS is able to provide a broad range of services that fulfill its mission to improve the quality of life in the city of Providence through historic preservation and the enhancement of the built environment. PPS activities, outreach, and offerings include the Festival of Historic Houses, citywide advocacy, homeowner resources, and many other events and programs.

This forum will take place on Thursday, September 9, from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Providence Public Library, 150 Empire Street (use the Washington Street entrance). Mark S. Murphy, Editor of Providence Business News, will be the moderator.

Get to know the candidates’ position on issues that impact the quality of life in Providence’s neighborhoods.

Entrance hall of the Kendrick-Prentice-Tirocchi House (1867) located at 514 Broadway- Photo by Jan Armor PPS's highly acclaimed annual Ten Most Endangered Properties Photography Exhibit will appear September 9-October 16 in the Chabot Fine Art Gallery located at 379 Atwells Avenue. The show features the work of local photographers Jan Armor, Michael Cevoli, Ryan Conaty Andrew Dernavich, Stephanie Ewens, Adam Hall, Deborah Hickey, Brian McDonald, Frank Mullin, and Traer Scott.

A Gallery Night opening reception will be held at Chabot Fine Art Gallery on Thursday, September 16, 5:00–9:00 p.m. The event and reception are free and open to the public. The exhibit may also be viewed during gallery hours: Tuesday- Saturday 12:00-6:00p.m., or by appointment.
