Historic Preservation Awards
PPS recognizes significant contributions to the preservation and revitalization of Providence's historic resources. The awards acknowledge contributions in the field of historic preservation made by individuals and organizations and recognize both preservation construction projects and preservation initiatives.
Preservation Construction Projects
These awards honor the renovation or restoration of historic buildings as well as new construction that contributes to the built environment. Eligible construction projects include renovation or restoration of historic buildings or sites and the design or construction of new buildings in historic areas that is harmonious with the surrounding buildings and that enhances the urban fabric. Categories of recognition are
- Material Conservation
- Neighborhood Revitalization
- New Design
Construction projects must be completed, and must have been completed no more than three years ago at the time of the nomination.
Preservation Initiative Awards
These awards recognize special initiatives or commitment to preservation values in the previous year by an individual, organization, community, or group in the following categories:
- Community Involvement
- Urban Planning/Initiatives
The Awards Committee bases its decision on the contribution of the person or project to the community and to the field of historic preservation.
