About the Venue:
The forthcoming Bucklin Plaza in the West End seems to encompass an entire city block under one roof, but it is actually a complex of several structures. The buildings date from the late 1920s and have housed several manufacturing endeavors over the years.
The one-story building at the corner of Bucklin Street and Bellevue Avenue (69 Bucklin Street), featuring a distinct yellow bracketed overhang, has been home to Acme Tackle Co., Goodyear Tire Co. & Rubber Co., Phillips Baker Rubber Co. (maker of rubber footwear), W.P. Hamblin Inc. (storage), Automatic Canteen Co. (vending machines), Spencer Plating Co., and Vanguard Metals.
The attached one-story building (77 Bucklin Street) at the corner of Bucklin and Peace Streets with a stepped parapet at the roofline was likely built by Samuel Bomes of the nearby Bomes Theater at 1017 Broad Street. Briefly, it was occupied by a couple of bottle manufacturing companies followed by Narragansett Paper Co., Vanguard Metals, paper warehouse, and a restaurant and shops.
Current plans are to reactivate the complex as a mixed-use commercial center at the prominent convergence of Bucklin and Dexter Streets.
