Finding Providence: A Day with Leigh and Leslie

Friday, 11/04/2005

Friday, November 4 was an exciting day in Providence with the arrival of world renowned antique experts Leigh and Leslie Keno from PBS’s famed Antiques Roadshow and Find!

The gorgeous weather helped kick off the celebration to PPS’s 50th Anniversary. First on the Keno Brothers’ busy agenda was a private lunch at the Hope Club where Leigh and Leslie met with corporate sponsors Coleman Realtors, honorary chair Angela Brown Fischer, Board Members Pat Moran and Kyle Kelly and PPS’s Executive Director Jack Gold. “We could not have thought of a better way to honor the work of our founders and the coming of our 50th than with the presence of two American icons of the antiques and decorative arts world. We’re truly delighted that the Kenos have joined us in celebrating 50 years of historic preservation work in Providence.”

Following the lunch, Leigh and Leslie were stationed in two private Providence homes while 40 Collectors’ Afternoon attendees gathered in front of the Nightingale Brown House waiting to be escorted by trolley to the homes where the brothers guided them through rare and some never before seen collections. After the house tours, all Collectors’ Afternoon attendees were treated to a high tea at the Nightingale Brown House hosted by Angela Brown Fischer where she entertained her guests with a history of the house she grew up in and delighted everyone by presenting a table of the family china and silverware. As attendees were leaving, Leigh and Leslie personalized complimentary copies of their book, Hidden Treasures.

The evening Patrons’ Reception began at 6:30pm in the Garden Room at the Biltmore Hotel. Guests were treated to delicious appetizers, open bars and Leigh and Leslie mingling with the 250 guests. The auction was an unforgettable part of the evening to see the brothers in their element as “the auctioneers” and when the final auction item which was cocktails with the Keno Brothers in New York City created a bidding war, they graciously offered the cocktail party twice and helped PPS to bring in close to $45,000 in auction items alone. Leigh and Leslie wrapped up the night with a delightful and high energy presentation of some of the rare and unique finds of their career and they shared some of their highlights through laugh out loud stories that delighted everyone in the room.
