The Development of Fox Point: A Festival of Historic Houses Preview Lecture

Thursday, 06/04/2015 – 6:00 PM

Fox Point has a long history of human habitation.  Located at the confluence of the Providence and Seekonk Rivers, it was a natural settling ground for both Native Americans and English colonists.  Its earliest occupation occurred near the shorelines, but by the end of the eighteenth century its internal development pattern was established across a grid with longer east-west blocks and shorter north-south blocks.

On Thursday, June 4, join Architectural Historian Mack Woodward (author of the PPS/AIAri Guide to Providence Architecture and co-author of Providence: A Citywide Survey of Historic Resources) as he speaks on the development of this unique neighborhood. The lecture will serve as a preview for the PPS Festival of Hisotric Houses in Fox Point on June 12 & 13 (click here to learn more).

Free for PPS and Barker Playhouse Members, $10 for non-members.
