27th Annual Festival of Historic Houses
The Providence Preservation Society (PPS) hosted its 27th Annual Festival of Historic Houses on Friday and Saturday, June 2-3, in historic College Hill. Despite the rainy weather, the Festival hosted over 1,100 attendees, including over 100 participants from the Congress for New Urbanism (CNU) Conference, resulting in one of the most successful tours to date. The Festival of Historic Houses is the signature fundraising and educational event for PPS and is an opportunity to showcase preserved buildings in Providence's varied neighborhoods. This special two-day event highlighted some of the best and never-before-seen private homes along Benefit Street and in the Congdon/Prospect Street neighborhood. According to Jack Gold, PPS Executive Director, "Following last June's sold-out Downcity Tour, we were especially delighted to return to our East Side roots and showcase an unusually wide variety of architecturally distinctive and appealing homes."Major corporate support for PPS’s 27th Annual Festival of Historic Houses included: Title Sponsors: Suffolk Construction and Providence Tourism Council; Co-Sponsor: Adler's Hardware; Event Sponsors: Bank Rhode Island, DRL Associates, Inc., Nappa Building Corporation, Newport Collaborative Architects, Inc., and Sovereign Bank; and Supporting Sponsors: Armory Properties, Couture Design Associates, Sheehan's Office Interiors, Vision 3 Architects, and William Kite Architects, Inc.
