Fine Wine Auction: Vintage Providence
On Thursday, November 4, 2004 the Providence Preservation Society hosted its third fine wine auction. The event, entitled Vintage Providence, was held at the historic Providence Art Club located along picturesque Thomas Street. The elegance of one of the oldest art clubs in the nation served as the perfect setting for the evening’s festivities which began with a private wine tasting and hors d’oeuvres, followed by a live auction of fine wines and accoutrements. All were treated to a memorable evening featuring magnificent wines during this wonderful celebration of Providence.
Auction items included: A bottle of 1990 Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame with a pair of brilliant Swarovski crystal champagne flutes; a mixed case of fabulous wines from Italy’s famed Produttori del Barbaresco, with three bottles each of the Produttori del Barbaresco’s Pora Riserva 1997, Pora Riserva 1996, Montestefano Riserva 1995, and Montestefano Riserva 1997; a giant 6 liter bottle of Mondavi Rothschild Opus One from the 1984 vintage; two bottles of 1964 Giroud Gevrey-Chambertin, one of France’s most famous and coveted Burgundian reds; and a gourmet dinner for eight, complete with vintage French and American wines, prepared by Chef Ellen Brown, cookbook author and owner of Nantucket Cuisine.
Chaired by PPS Trustee Kyle Kelly, Vintage Providence welcomed close to 150 guests and generated over $40,000 to support PPS’s Education and Advocacy programs. PPS would like to thank the following sponsors and in-kind supporters for their generous commitment to Vintage Providence: Swarovski North America Ltd; The Colibri Group; Bank of America; Advertising Ventures and NBC 10.
