2007 Most Endangered Properties List Press Conference
On Tuesday, May 8, the Providence Preservation Society (PPS) held a press conference to unveil its long-awaited 2007 Most Endangered Properties List. The press conference took place at the new Renaissance Providence Hotel at Five Avenue of the Arts in Providence. The hotel is in the former Masonic Temple building, perhaps the most fitting symbol of the success of the Most Endangered Properties List. The building was on the List for ten years, and since the Temple’s last listing Providence has watched this “white elephant” transform into a luxury hotel, a project that has been called “the largest historic restoration project in Rhode Island history”. The 4:00 P.M. press conference was followed by a celebratory reception. PPS was honored by the presence of its 50th Anniversary Hall of Fame members at this significant event.
