Historic Property Marker Program
Through its Historic Property Marker Program, PPS recognizes buildings in the City of Providence that contribute in some positive way to the appreciation and understanding of Providence’s unique architectural, historical, and cultural heritage. Markers are awarded to buildings that retain integrity of their original design, are appropriately and well maintained, and are at least 50 years old. It is the hope of PPS that these markers will serve not only to identify buildings of historical and architectural significance, but also to encourage, through heightened community awareness, the continuing care and preservation of individual buildings and neighborhoods.
Once approved, the cost of the marker is $300.00 for members of the Providence Preservation Society. For non-members, the cost is $325 - which includes both a marker and a PPS household membership. The marker fee represents the cost to PPS for the fabrication of the marker as well as the cost of deed/title research to determine the original owner and construction date. You will receive a copy of the building research, which will be included in our online marker house database, The Mary A. Gowdey Library of House Histories.
For replacement markers, whose research has been recently completed, the cost of the marker is $150.00 for members of PPS. For non-members, the cost is $175.00, and includes a household membership to PPS.
