2012 Internship and Volunteer Opportunities

Federal Workstudy

winterbashpreparations
RISD student interns prepare signs for an event.
We regularly offer unpaid internships to college and graduate students in the Providence area. We also employ students in paid administrative support roles through the Federal Work-Study program. Our student workers take away from their time at PPS not only a greater understanding of historic preservation but also the general work experience derived from participating as part of a busy work team and interacting with the public.

Administrative work includes general office support such as assisting with computer and database work, special events, mailings, filing, errands, receiving visitors, and answering phones. Student applicants must commit to a consistently reliable schedule. Knowledge of Microsoft Office is required. For paid positions, student candidates must be Federal Work-Study eligible as certified by their educational institutions.

Volunteering at PPS

This year's tour features houses in the Blackstone neighborhood on Providence's East Side. So that tour sites can be open to the public from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., we'll need your help! We welcome new volunteers, so please invite your friends, relatives, and neighbors to sign up with you. Volunteers must attend one of two training sessions - Saturday, May 14 at 10:00 a.m.; or Monday, May 16 at 5:30 p.m
For more information or to sign up as a volunteer, please e-mail Volunteer Recruitment and Training Coordinator Stephen Coon at or download the Volunteer Sign-Up Form from our website. Volunteering with PPSThe Providence Preservation Society can only accomplish all the great work that we do with the support and assistance of a dedicated group of volunteers. We are always looking for dedicated, energetic people to work on a variety of projects from assisting with special fundraising events, to organizing our slide collection, general office help, historical property research and everything in between.
  • Do you have the time and the talents that could benefit PPS?
  • Do you enjoy research?
  • Are you handy with a computer or a whiz with graphic design?
  • Do you have a knack for organization?
  • Do you think you'd make a great tour guide?

If you match any of some of the ideas above, then you should consider becoming a volunteer at the Providence Preservation Society!

We are always looking for dedicated, energetic people to work on a variety of projects from organizing our slide collection and making it accessible on the Web, to historical property research and everything in between. If you have the time and the interest to help us out, please e-mail or call the office at (401) 831-7440 and put your talents to good use.
