Abingdon at Westminster Crossing, Neighborhood Revitalization Award, 711-719 Westminster Street
The successful rehabilitation and reuse of this prominent historic building not only preserves an important piece of the city’s urban fabric, but furthers revitalization efforts in Providence’s Downtown and West End neighborhoods. Constructed in the latter part of the nineteenth century, the Abingdon stands at the “Gateway to the West Side.” Project owners Dann Cady and Jim DeRentis made a conscious decision to redevelop a property that could positively influence and attract others to the area. Their hard work and dedication, along with the professional expertise of Trac Builders and Bill Tracy, led to the successful completion of the project, a true asset to the neighborhood and entire city. The project has served as a catalyst to bringing renewed life back to this prominent thoroughfare.
