Burgess, O'Gorman & Wilkinson Buildings, Adaptive Reuse Award, Westminster Street
The rehabilitation and adaptive reuse of the Burgess, O’Gorman & Wilkinson buildings not only preserves these significant structures, but also continues revitalization efforts already underway in Downcity. The rehabilitated storefronts serve to enliven the pedestrian experience while the adaptive reuse of upper stories introduces 25 loft-style apartments into the center of downtown. The success of this project relied heavily on the collaboration of Cornish Associates; Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects; Odeh Engineers; Wilkinson Associates; Johnson & Stover, Inc.; Dimeo Construction Company; and the Providence Preservation Society Revolving Fund. This project furthers Cornish Associates’ commitment to bringing renewed life back to our historic downtown core.
