ENO Fine Wines, New Design/Neighborhood Revitalization Award, 225 Westminster Street, Downtown

Located in Providence’s historic Peerless Building, a Westminster Street commercial block recently rehabilitated by Buff Chace and Cornish Associates, ENO Fine Wines opened last year and has fulfilled the need for an upscale wine and spirits store downtown. Although a new store, ENO’s interior demonstrates a reverence for historic structure and furnishings while maintaining a fresh sensibility. Owner Jerold Ehlrich purchased antique metal cabinetry and shelving salvaged from the Lackawanna County Courthouse in Pennsylvania to use as display racks for wine bottles. The space, designed with help from Donald Powers Architects and executed by Case Construction, maintains a constant temperature ideal for the wine. The thoughtful design and organization of the interior creates a lively, inviting space for casual browsers and connoisseurs alike.
