Peerless Building, Adaptive Reuse Award, 239 Westminster Street

The rehabilitation of this building continues Cornish Associates’ commitment to bringing renewed life into the city’s historic downtown core. The ambitious project required complete transformation of a monolithic commercial building into 97 loft-style apartments around a central, seven-story atrium, which allows light into interior units while serving as a prominent focal point and gathering place for residents and users of the building.

This architectural achievement is the result of the hard work and dedication of Peerless Lofts, LLC, Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects, Dimeo Construction Company and CWC Builders, Odeh Engineers, Building Engineering Resources, Kalin Associates, and Abernathy Lighting Design. The project has restored major character-defining historic features of the building while creating a vibrant and dynamic place to live. The addition of an all-season garden room, roof garden and terrace provide the perfect vantage point to reflect on the Renaissance of our capital city from atop a building which has come to epitomize that renaissance.
