108 Waterman

10/11/2023 Update:

A proposal to the City Plan Commission for a 5-story, 28-unit apartment building at 108 Waterman Street received Master Plan Approval on September 19, with the condition of removing the rooftop deck due to noise concerns. This proposal was continued from the July meeting due to concerns regarding the 1877 structure it would replace. Unfortunately, it was determined by the Historic District Commission that the structure was not architecturally significant enough to prevent its demolition. PPS is concerned about the continuing degradation of College Hill, Providence’s first National Register District, and will continue to monitor this project.

9/15/2023 Update:

The proposal for a 5-story, 28-unit apartment building at 108 Waterman Street to the City Plan Commission will be reviewed again at the September 19 meeting (agenda) for Master Plan Approval. This was continued from the July 18 meeting in order to review the historic character of the building and the potential effects of a rooftop deck.

7/25/2023 Update:

A proposal for a 5-story, 28-unit apartment building at 108 Waterman Street was presented at the City Plan Commission last Tuesday, July 18. This project will be reviewed again at the September 19 meeting for Master Plan Approval and will be available for public comment. If approved, the proposal will involve the demolition of an 1877 late-Victorian building within the College Hill National Register District. It currently houses several apartments and two businesses. PPS is concerned with the project’s adverse impacts on the National Register District, which does not have protections against demolition. (Image courtesy Ahronian & Associates).

A 5-story, 28-unit apartment building will be proposed for 108 Waterman Street at the City Plan Commission meeting Tuesday, July 18 at 5:00 pm. This project is in its first Master/Preliminary Plan stage. PPS encourages the public to attend the CPC meeting at the Joseph Doorley Municipal Building at 444 Westminster Street to review the project and submit public comment.
