Industrial Trust Building is One of America’s 11 Most Endangered

Published in Announcements.

A Providence landmark has made the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s annual list of threatened buildings.

Each year, the list of America’s 11 Most Endangered Historic Places sheds light on important examples of our nation’s heritage that are at risk of destruction or irreparable damage. Over 300 places have been listed in its 32-year history, and in that time, fewer than 5 percent of listed sites have been lost.

We are excited to announce that the Industrial Trust Company Building is on this year’s list. An iconic part of the Providence skyline, the 1928 building is under threat due to deterioration and deferred maintenance after six years of vacancy. Dubbed the “Superman Building” due to its resemblance to the Daily Planet building from Superman comics, there is no current redevelopment plan for this iconic piece of the Providence skyline, putting its future in question.
