Mayor Elorza Vetoes Fane Tower

Published in Advocacy Alerts.

Read Mayor Elorza’s statement on his veto of the Fane Tower proposal.

We are pleased to announce that Mayor Elorza has vetoed the Fane Tower proposal! The Providence Preservation Society and all of the coalition members that have been speaking out against this short-sighted and destructive zoning change wholeheartedly thank the mayor for putting the city’s interests above the interest of one developer.

While we celebrate this victory, the fight isn’t over. The proposal will likely return to City Council, where they will have an opportunity to override the Mayor’s veto. And Senate President Ruggerio has already begun working on legislation that will strip the City’s zoning authority for I-195 parcels. We need your help to continue to coordinate advocates, lobby legislators and continue our advocacy for citywide issues that affect us all. Help us call on the City Council now to uphold the veto and reject this questionable proposal that would have significant long-term negative impacts on Providence and our state.
