New Member Welcome Reception

Brent Runyon addresses new members in the Shakespeare’s Head Garden.

On August 23, PPS hosted our annual New Member Welcome Reception, organized by Membership Chair and Trustee Steve Coon. Attendees enjoyed balmy weather, scintillating conversation, and the beautiful colonial revival garden at Shakespeare’s Head. We are so grateful to our new members; our work would not be possible without your support!

Morris Brown House Anniversary

Guests tour the dining room of the Morris Brown House.

In celebration of the 225th Anniversary of the 1793 Morris Brown House, PPS and homeowner Nancy Sherren hosted an open house for PPS volunteers and members on September 8. More than 150 attendees toured this rare remnant of Providence’s 18th century agricultural history. Mayor Jorge Elorza and Councilwoman Nirva LaFortune were on hand to present a proclamation in recognition of the occasion.

2018 Detroit Trip: Modernism in the Machine Age

Participants visit the Dorothy G. Turkel House, by Frank Lloyd Wright.

Thirty-one delightful travelers participated in the PPS heritage travel trip to Detroit in mid-September. Thanks to Detroit native, Wendy MacGaw, the itinerary was packed with jaw-dropping architecture including buildings by Albert Kahn, Eliel Saarinen, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Many noted their wish to return soon to continue the exploration and enjoy the Detroit performing arts scene, as we visited several fine theaters.
